We are exhausted (mom, dad, grandma). The babies eat every 3 hours. They are slow eaters; feedings and changing take about 1.5-2 hours, leaving an hour in between the feedings. I pump breast milk and everybody, even their older sister, help with feeding/changing. I hope to transition to direct breast feeding as soon as possible. At this point I use a nipple shield to help them suck when they are put to the breast one or two times a day each.

Your children are beautiful! Great job making it past 34 wks. My triplets were born at 32 weeks. 2 were the exact same weights as your boys and one had IUGR and was only 2 lbs 10 oz. We delivered for lil man, too! I am glad all your babies are healthy and doing so well! My boys are 26 months old now! I saw your BF question on Baby Center. I struggled also. I ended up only pumping. I was always affraid they were not eating enough when I nursed and it was so time consuming! My plan was just to pump until they got a little older and better at 'sucking'. But I threw in the towel after 3 months of pumping. It was exhausting. But I do regret it and wish I was able to experience BF! I would use your resources. Contact a Lactaion Specialist. I really do wish I had tried harder. But I know those first few months are TOUGH!
ReplyDeleteI just wanted to reach out to you, I live in NC also. Im not sure where you are, but if you are close, I would love to help out it anyway I can! My email is cassieaaron@hotmail.com I would be happy to answer any questions you have!! Hope those cute babies let you get some rest! My boys were in the NICU 6 and 7 weeks, so I was fully recovered when they came home. Of course if given the choice I would have chosen to bring them home when I was discharged!!!
Take Care!
